Protect your wildlands
A variety of treatments are described that can be applied on an individual property or on a larger scale to protect a subdivision or community.

Vegetation management - Simple treatment can dramatically reduce the spread and intensity of wildfire. Reducing the density of fuel by thinning and trimming trees and removing ladder fuels helps keep the fire on the ground, increasing the chances for firefighters to control the fire.   vegetation management
Good fires - Fire was once part of the natural ecology of our forests. Fires set by lightning and other natural causes once regularly burned our forests. These cycles of fire cleared out underbrush, preventing overgrowth that can fuel large-scale wildfires. Today, prescribed fires mimic natural fire conditions to prevent devastating wildfires.    good fire
Helping animals and plants - Animals and plants in our forests need fire to keep their habitats healthy. Many species depend on good fires to thrive. Prescribed fires, carefully set by expert fire managers, help our woodland plants and animals by re-creating the fire patterns they depend on. animals and plants
